J.W. Martin was called to the ministry at a very young age but always said "Not me, I'm gonna be a Rock Star."  At the age of 15, he left home after not having a father-figure in his life since his birth.  He joined the Marines and because his mother got cancer, he was honorably discharged just a few hours before his company left for Viet Nam- all but 5 were killed.  God had spared his life time and time again yet he still wanted the things of the world instead of the things of God.

J.W. got to live his dream.  He traveled full time with several famous rock bands, had a screen-test that resulted in being signed as a contract player/actor with Allied Artist and became a movie producer. He lived it up with the fancy houses, flashy cars, wild parties, gorgeous women/starlets, drugs, money- everything the world had to offer, yet he began searching for something more- something spiritual to fill the void in his life.

Finally one day in his swanky Hollywood office, God spoke to him audibly "Son, it's now or never- I'm tired of messing with you."  He turned white as a sheet but the message was clear.  Being the dealmaker that he was, he asked God if he could wait till Sunday night because he just knew that no one would hardly be there.  That evening hundreds of people showed up but there was NO altar call!!  Remembering his promise, J.W. went forward and asked for prayer to be saved.  He remembers hearing such beautiful music but there wasn't any playing.  The Bible tells us that when a backslider comes to the Lord that all Heaven rejoices.  "I was so bad that they partied for three days!"

About six months after being saved, J.W. accepted the call of ministry on his life.  He began working with Youth Crusades of America and soon was sent out on his own to speak in Churches, Singles meetings, Schools, Conferences, etc.  One day in prayer, God said "Take my hand and I'll lead you through MY ministry." Over the past 25 + years being full of Faith and Trust in God, J.W. has become a successful Entrepreneur, Motivational Speaker, Evangelist, Author and Soul-Winner.

In 1981, during their Wedding Ceremony, prophecy came forth that J.W. & Cathy would have a "unique end time" ministry.  At the time they were both traveling- J.W. preaching and Cathy singing.  Little did they know what God had predestined before the foundations of the world for them.

On February 14, 1999 the doors of Shield of Faith Outreach were opened in Las Vegas.  From the very beginning they set out to be a blessing to others.  Literally becoming a distribution house of clothes, furniture, housewares, food, finances and shelter to anyone in need.  Their heart is to help the homeless, lost and hurting.  That has grown into relationships with several local Charities, smaller Churches, Local and State Agencies that are partly dependent upon Shield of Faith for food and supplies.

Through teaching and preaching the uncompromised Word of God and being an example of how to live by faith to others, Pastor Martin has gained favor with God and fellow Pastors.  By working to unite Pastors in the city, Pastor J.W. was appointed ICFM Area Director for Las Vegas and under his leadership the membership for Nevada has tripled.  Also in '2000 Pastor J.W. earned his Doctor of Divinity degree.  Dr. Martin continues working with local Pastors to feed, clothe and teach the Truth of God's Word using every gift, talent and ability God has given him.  He has ministered in many local churches as well as other States and receives invitations to come and share the uncompromised Word of God-crossing all denominational barriers.

His unique preaching style and use of impressions (Jimmy Carter, the Godfather, Grandpa McCoy, and many others), illustrations and hilarious humor has led  hundreds to Salvation and challenged believers to grow up spiritually and take their position in Christ.  God has placed a healing mantle upon Dr. Martin and many have been healed in Jesus name of cancer, aids, heart disease, financial crisis, broken hearts, broken families and broken bones just to name a few.

Dr. J.W and Cathy are committed to use every avenue available to preach and teach the uncompromised full Word of God to all that will listen.  This is being done through "Walking on the Word"- a weekly TV and radio broadcast, books, tapes, newsletters, webcasts and unique ways of advertising.  The message remains the same…JESUS IS LORD!

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Shield Of Faith Outreach and Shield of Faith Church is to change lives in the 21^st Century by restoring love, compassion, forgiveness and unity of the faith to the entire body of believers, to reflect the image of God our Father and to be a blessing in our homes, businesses, schools, our city, our nation and around the world.

We are called to minister to the broken hearted, proclaim freedom to the oppressed and reach out to the hungry, the lost, the homeless, the prisoners, the widows and orphans with the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by preaching, teaching and sharing the uncompromised full Word of God.

We are called to train and equip born again believers to become mature and skillful in the Word of Righteousness and how to stand firm as a mighty army in spiritual warfare against the kingdom of darkness all for the work of the ministry through faith, love, prosperity and the Holy Spirit.

This mission is being accomplished through the ministry of Shield Of Faith Outreach, Shield of Faith Church and Shield Of Faith Bible Institute and use of TV, radio, webcasts, books, tapes, campaigns, conventions and personal correspondence and is multiplied through the financial support of other ministries and individuals of like purpose.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We Believe…

*  that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God, that he was crucified on the cross, died and was buried.  On the 3^rd day he arose from the dead and ascended into Heaven where he is seated at the right hand of Almighty God.

*   in the Trinity- God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the very spirit of God.

*   that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, inspired by God and is the final authority for every believer.

*    after death that eternal life begins either in Heaven or in Hell and that man must make a choice where he wants to spend it.  Living according to God's Word and in obedience or in disobedience and rebellion.

*    in the rapture of the Church where believers both alive and dead will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord Jesus in the air.

*     in water baptism, observance of the Lord's supper and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.

*     that divine healing is for today. Jesus is the healer and by his stripes we are already healed and we trust in the authority of His name.

*      that tithes are to be paid to your local church where you are a member and are being  taught the uncompromised full Word of God to grow spiritually and that offerings and alms will produce a return harvest of 30- 60- or 100 fold return in this lifetime and that giving determines the amount of our increase.

VISION STATEMENT

We will own places where lost, hurting, frustrated and oppressed people can find forgiveness, love, acceptance, help and encouragement through the uncompromised full Word of God.

We will establish places of refuge and relief for those needing rehabilitation from addictions as well as the homeless and give food, clothing, shelter, grooming essentials and provide trade and business training and in some cases jobs.

As we proclaim that JESUS IS LORD and the head of the Church, we will equip the believers for a significant work in the ministry through fellowship, Bible study, Conferences, retreats, seminars, growth study classes and outreach.

We will have a campus of 130 + acres that will house a Church building that will seat thousands, house childcare facilities, Shield of Faith Bible Institute, outreach distribution center, Shield of Faith Publishing company, complete youth center and coffee house, recreation facilities of miniature golf, 9 hole golf course, tennis and basketball courts, 2 outdoor amphitheaters for concerts, TV production studio, recording sound studio, complete health spa and hair salon, hotels and restaurants for Campmeetings and Conventions- all to meet the needs of the people, spirit, soul and body. This will be large enough for a large gathering of believers at one time without the noise and distraction of the city.  This will be a place of prayer, praise and worship, fun and entertainment- something for everyone.
